Hollyford Track

Located in the spectacular Fiordland National Park the dramatic Hollyford Track is one of the greatest guided walks in New Zealand.

Three Day Hollyford Track Guided Nature Walk

In this 3 Day / 2 Night all inclusive guided wilderness experience you will be transported from the wilderness to the sea. Traversing the Hollyford Valley by foot, jetboat and finally helicopter.  Your expert and passionate guides will bring to life the diversity of landscape, vegetation and wildlife, sharing captivating stories of early Māori and Pioneering families. Our small intimate group size ensures a more personal service, in our comfortable private lodges where first rate cuisine and fine wines are served. The trip concludes with a helicopter flight into Milford Sound before returning you to Queenstown.

Day One (12 miles walking)
Depart Queenstown and travel alongside the beautiful Lake Wakatipu and on to Te Anau.  Travel alongside Lake Te Anau and through the majestic Eglinton Valley to the start of the track in the Hollyford Valley, visiting Gunn's Camp museum on the way. Then re-trace the footsteps of the original Maori and early explorers along the Hollyford River to Pyke River Lodge. Enjoy interesting historical tales and interpretation of the forest and bird life as the track undulates gently through native beech forest and be-side tumbling waterfalls.

Day Two (8.5 miles walking)
Begin your day with a short walk to Lake Alabaster and learn of the history and geology of the area in the midst of stunning surroundings. Cross Fiordland's longest swing bridge (optional) and then enjoy a wilderness jet boat journey down the Hollyford River and across Lake McKerrow to the historic site of Jamestown, the intended capital of the South Island in the late 19th century. Walk through the ancient Podocarp forest with giant Rimu, Totara and Kahikatea trees wrapped in massive Rata vines before visiting the New Zealand Fur Seal colony at Long Reef on the wild West Coast where you may see the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin.

Day Three (5 miles walking)
Travel by jet boat to Martins Bay Spit and explore this eight kilometre landmark and its lagoon, sand dunes and coast. Learn about the Maori history as well as plant, bird and sea life of this remote area.
